Brian D. Smith

Of Counsel

Mr. Smith defends municipalities and political subdivisions in civil litigation and civil appellate litigation in state and federal courts. His practice concentrations include land use and development regulation, planning and zoning matters, municipal cemeteries, labor and employment law, and compliance with the Public Information Act and Texas Open Meetings Act. Mr. Smith also has deep expertise in insurance law and provides legal representation to plaintiffs who sustained bodily injuries in collisions with 18-wheel vehicles.

A lifelong Texan, Mr. Smith received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2005. He also holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Texas A&M University-College Station. Prior to law school, Mr. Smith spent a decade working in municipal administration, serving in roles that included city manager and executive director for various political subdivisions in Texas.

Mr. Smith’s legal career includes formerly serving as assistant vice president of retail casualty claims for a large specialty insurance carrier, where under the direction of the chief claims officer he managed the litigation docket and the general liability claims management team. Mr. Smith’s municipal administration and insurance industry experience allow him to approach client matters from multiple perspectives, which contributes to his success in representing clients.
