Oil & Gas Interest Owners Win Important Judgment

12.28.2011

Attorneys of Sheehy, Ware & Pappas, P.C. obtained a favorable and significant verdict and judgment for clients who owned oil royalty interests which were improperly washed out by a lease owner and operator. Pat Hosford, David Threinen, Nelson Woods, and Morris Etheridge owned overriding royalty interest ownerships in a productive field in High Island, Galveston County, Texas and, pursuant to those royalty interests, received payments for over two decades. The jury found for the Plaintiffs on several grounds including intentionally terminating the lease to “wash out” the overriding interests, tortious interference, conversion, conspiracy, and alter ego. The jury also awarded substantial damages. The case presented several important and interesting issues under Texas oil and gas law.
James L. Ware, Raymond A. Neuer, and Kendall D. O’Neal tried the case for the firm clients.
